Hey welcome back to our show Truckers Have Feelings, this is Episode 9. I was really stressing on what to talk about in todays show and then I remembered my buddy Dan from Northern New Brunswick who I was responsible to dispatch when I first started my trucking career. Dan was a great guy, but a bit hot under the collar so to speak. He always said what was on his mind with absolutely no filter. What I liked about that was there was no guessing or wondering what was on his mind. To this day I have no idea what happened to him as I lost touch after I left the trucking business. But to change things up here is a true story about my buddy Dan… It all started regarding this particular event with Dan getting dispatched on a load going Florida I believe. Now he had a flatbed trailer and most freight coming out of Florida was hauled by van. Dan “told” me going to Florida is one thing but I had better have a reload once he delivered the current freight. The plan was to send him to Georgia to pick up a load of pipe being delivered into Ontario however management screwed that up for Dan by giving the load to another trucker who honestly didn’t deserve it at that time. After 5 days being empty with no prospective loads in site Dan called me and lost his crap on me. He told me he felt I was lying to him from the moment he started the trip and I was still lying to him which I was not - management set me up to be the fall guy. Dan was so upset he told me he was heading back to our office empty and when he got there he was going to come through the building wall and run me over right where I sat. At this point I hesitated and I had no idea what to say except this and I quote … “Dan I am betting the 1000 miles between us right now that you will calm down before you get here and be in a better mood” He said nothing and hung up - that was the last time I heard from him until … A few days later I seen his rig coming up the road towards our office which was in an old building on ground level. I seen him coming into our yard at a pretty good clip faster than normal and for a split second I remember thinking should I leave my desk and look like a chicken shit or stay at my desk and act calm and collected until there was a real threat …. Well … I stayed at my desk and he stopped a few yards from the building - a sigh of relief!!!! He came in that building smiling thinking he was pretty funny, the guy was a solid build and I believed he could take me but we were able to talk this out and put the blame where it was deserved - management! Dan didn’t appreciate my comment about the thousand miles but he did end up understanding my position. I’m just glad he didn’t fulfil his promise to run me over. Lol So there you have it another episode of Truckers Have Feelings. Come on back next Sunday and we will figure out another episode for you awesome people. Thank you for your support! Keep safe and be kind to each other and whatever you do don’t run anybody over!
