Episode Transcript
Welcome to the 4th episode of Truckers Have Feelings ….
I want to give a shout-out to a good buddy of mine who is actually making sure I smarten up and get the episodes out - thank you to Trucker Lester - I call him Caption Les! Well at least I do now. Ha ha ha ha
I was talking to Captain Les about some ideas and he thought l was definitely on the right track - I did say I don’t want to make this podcast about sad stories, feel sorry for truckers stories but I was quickly reminded my original thoughts on creating this podcast was to tell the stories of Good truckers who need to be heard, who the public needs to be reminded of and the importance they play in our lives.
Most people, when they think of driving, going on a trip, they picture a Sunny, maybe warm day, having a relaxing drive to their destination.
Now our trucker friends get these type of days sometimes, rarely I will say … think of this - you the public are waiting for a sale coming up on a particular day and before the sale starts a storm hits - maybe snowstorm, wind storm, hurricane etc.
Where are the truckers? Most times riding out the storm, stuck on the highway, stuck away from their families in their trucks at a truck stop waiting for the storm to subside so they can deliver the goods. Now Im certainly not talking about the storm being over, sun shining - when I say subside, the meaning is the storm settles enough that the roads are passible, somewhat safe but the conditions are far from good - in fact most of us would be home in the comfort and safety of our homes - not Caption Les - no sir, our buddy Caption Les is looking for the receiver of the store where you will be dreaming about the upcoming sale - the day of the sale hits and guess what ….. your stuff is on the shelves, why? … Because Caption Les did his best to get the goods to the store where you were expecting it to be!
I was looking on line for an idea and came upon some sayings for Truckers, I want to share a few of them with you and leave you with some things to ponder.
Here is something written by a trucker:
I work 70 hours plus a week. I make sacrifices away from my family, so you can have what you need and want! I deal with rude and disrespectful people out on the road daily. I am over worked and underpaid! The least you can do is show some respect!
Here is another one:
I am a truck driver:
I am no different from you. The only difference you and I have is you go home to your family overnight while I am delivering the goods your family and mine need and want! So stop treating us truck drivers like criminals! Our job is tough enough without your added, unnecessary rudeness!
So there you have it right from the mouths of our truckers - no bullshit - this is real!
I want to share one last thing with you today as I have never seen this before - here is the truckers prayer! I love this:
Lord, please help me be safe as I travel each mile. Let your presence guide me and bring me a smile. Take care of my family while I am away. Let them know I miss them each and every day. Steer me clear of danger as I drive these miles alone. I put my hands in yours, Lord,
Keep me safe, Get me home.
